What you need to know:
Still on the mission of finding out who is killing the External’s Cable and the team end up falling into Gideon trap.
What just happened?
The issue starts big and opens in 5348. Gideon’s husk is brought back to life. We see how his army of creatures were created to begin with before we take a jump to the past to see his first victim. Unfortunately, that victim is Candra.
Back at base, the team’s under attack by the psychics. Is Doop their only hope? They only have moments to defeat the enemy once they’re finally back online. Gideon has the last laugh once more, as his base is seconds away from exploding. Armor panics, but Cable keeps calm. He gathers the team close to him. Of course, Cable is the man. He knows exactly how to escape these rapid explosions. Even with having to keep his team safe too.
Gideon heads straight for the Externals central. He meets up with Selene and the others. He tries his hand at manipulating the others into turning against Selene. When Selene is dragged into head on head combat with him, he has tricks up his sleeves. Will the Externals betray Selene? Will they help her? Is this a new alliance in the works? If it is, I don’t think the team will like it.
This issue flowed so well it was action packed and full of excellent story that blew my mind. Since I started reading this series it never got me excited but finally team Cable has clicked, I liked how the Externals finally got some story time.
I am enjoying watching Cable build lasting relationships with the team. I could definitely get used to them staying together. With him carrying a worn out Doop, and his faith in Hisako, it shows how carefully he selected his team.
The art, as always, is phenomenal; it still makes me remember the colourful flowing art of the ’90s. I think I would also say that time travel always seems to make my head hurt. It’s never been my thing. It would have been nice to see more character development and drive from Longshot, X-23, and Shatterstar. They were running behind the main crew in this issue.
