So back in November 1963 the BBC first aired Doctor Who a Time Traveling Alien from the planet Gallifrey. But the BBC writers were very clever instead of having a character that who only last several seasons they created this loophole he could regenerate.
So with over 50 years of TV episodes spanning 26 seasons, alien galore, beautiful companions even Rory, a space pooch the Legendary Daleks 13 regenerations taking place we finally arrive with The Doctor number 14 who will be played by Jodie Whitaker.
Ok first off the bat I came into Doctor Who when it returned in 2005 and I never bothered to go back and watch the history of the Doctor as I felt there was really no need.
My Doctor was David Tennant who I was lucky enough to see when I worked at the BBC, however, I followed Matt Smith who I thought combined with Karen and Darvill were pretty cool. With Peter Capaldi, I was not really a fan of I seemed to have lost my passion for Doctor Who but I kept watching it more out of habit than anything else, I felt like the energy was gone and it needed a new direction.
So the news broke that there would be a new Doctor and it would be a lady like most people I was taken aback because I was so used to the Doctor being this arrogant flawed man who continues to surprise me, at this point because I was already at the end of what felt like hard work watching Doctor Who I decided that I was not even going to give the next season my time of day.
But for one minute I saw a glimpse of Jodie’s Doctor I am eager to see her again especially now that the dust has settled I am actually really excited to see a new dynamic of the Doctor’s character and how her approach is switching sexes, will she still think like a man for example or will her senses/feeling be realigned?
More importantly, why has this happened is there a reason for this change I really hope there is a puzzle, riddle or just a punishment so the Doctor has a new perspective on how her life should be lived.
Also, will we now see male companions now that the mold has been broken, one thing is for sure Jodie Whitaker is an amazing Actress whose credentials speak for themselves staring in such drama’s as Broadchurch and movies Attack the Block, St Trinian’s.
In my opinion, as long as the stories are brilliant and being told Jodie will excel in this role and I would like her to succeed even if there are some die-hard fans who cannot look past the Doctor now being a woman.
There have always been shows that I have watched that have had strong female leads, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Alias, Stargate Atlantis.
One of the great things in Doctor Who were the Companions and we have seen some amazing emotional charge scenes that have broken our Hearts, remember Doctor Donna just writing that fires that theme straight into my head.
I look forward to seeing how she will work her Magic in the new season of Doctor Who after only witnessing a glimpse of her Doctor at the end of the uninspired 2017 Christmas Special I am very excited. The Doctor can be many things a woman an alien creature but as long as the Character is what we expect with something new the show will go on with more adventure in the T.A.R.D.I.S.
Doctor Who Season 12 is due for release late 2018
