The Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #18

Annie has her hands full! Not only does she have to make sure some rookie superheroes don’t get themselves killed, she has superhero parents to answer to. Being a teenager is tough.

The Deets

The last issue revealed that newly-superpowered Lacey has a bone to pick with Normie Osborn.  Lacey reveals that she has lost her father who worked for Osborn. Annie and Reece are stunned. As Reece tries to calm his friend she lashes out with a blast of energy from her hands. The blast throws Reece backward and over the edge of the building the party is occupying. Luckily, Annie is able to catch Reece before he falls to his death.  When they recoup Lacey is gone.

As the now duo tries to catch up with Lacey, Annie feels her spider sense tingling. She fakes an ankle injury to allow Reece to continue the chase without her. Spider-Man and Spinneret appear and Annie immediately knows she is in trouble. Naturally, both parents are upset that Annie has been “superheroing” behind their backs. After Annie explains the situation to her parents, both Spider-Man and Spinneret decide it best if Annie takes the lead and they watch from afar.

Needless to say, Reece and Annie arrive to an action-packed confrontation between Lacey and Normie! Without giving too many details, Annie does a great job on her first mission as lead. Also, there seems to be a bigger threat pulling strings behind the scenes!

The "Fast Times at Midtown High" story arc was a lot of fun to read. It was also great to see Annie's continual growth as a more mature superhero. In fact, writer Jody Houser introduced Reece and Lacey for that purpose. The art is light as well and matches the story. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next for our teenaged heroine!
