Hunt for Wolverine #1: The Return of Wolverine

Written by: Charles Soule

What Just Happened:

We see how a couple of the superheroes outside of the mutant community felt about Logan and how he served the world as a whole. All the while, we also see that ragtag group of cyborg bounty hunters, the Reavers, trying to fulfill a contract by trying abducting Logan’s body to take it to an unknown source that was willing to give them a handsome sum of money. Instead, they run smack into our favorite band of merry mutants.

My Thoughts:

Wolverine passed away four years ago, in his stead there have been many who have taken up the mantle. But in my personal opinion none of them have had the same feel as what the original had. We saw many iterations of Wolverine in genetic clone Laura, illegitamate son Daken, James Hudson, his universally-displaced offspring, and of course, his time-displaced older self Old Man Logan. I have loved reading about how all these other characters have interacted with our mainstream Marvel universe, but a piece of me always yearned for the return of the tried and true original.

Well my friends, our wait is finally over! After last year’s tease of his statue being split open with nobody in sight, we have only seen glimpses of our favorite feral Canadian and honestly, in this first issue we are only given small glimpses into what had really transpired with Logan’s body. I love how this story has a sense of reverence for Logan’s character and how he is revered throughout the Marvel universe.  In my opinion, every single panel is worth every penny spent on this issue.

Hunt for Wolverine #1 pulled at the heart strings in the same way that the Death of Wolverine issues did. We see the true depth of this character that has been around for forty-four years and come to understand the reason why he is loved all over the world. I am sure that if Len Wein were still around he would be happy with the direction that his creation is going in.

This issue will whet or appetite of what we have been wanting for a very long time, and at the same time leave you begging for more. I loved every single minute of reading this comic book. The artwork was wonderful and helped to tell the story well. The dialogue was magnificent and built the characters nicely. If you haven't picked it up yet, run to your LCS and pick it and the second issue up as soon as possible.
  • Wolverines Back Baby!
  • Wonderful Artwork
  • Smackdown on the Reavers
  • One point in the comic when someone runs through all the different kinds of wolverines running around
  • We don't actually see much of Logan at all.

Have your say!
