Fear For The Fearless (X-23 #3 Comic Review)

X-23 #3-Two Birthdays and Three Funerals Part 3

Writer: Mariko Tamaki

Artist: Juann Cabal

Cover: Mike Choi

Color: Nolan Woodard

Letters: Cory Petit

Synopsis: Gabby has been kidnapped by The Stepford Cuckoos in a weird scheme to reanimate one of their sisters, and Laura needs to find them quick. They kidnapped geneticist Dr. Marks before so they almost have everything they need to succeed in their plan!

What You’ll Need To Know: The Stepford Cuckoos had lost one sister due to a virus causing her body to deteriorate rapidly. The other sister is on her way soon, and they will do anything to save her. The Stepford Cuckoos are ruthless as we all know and they’ve even tried killing their mentor Emma Frost.

In This Issue: Going head to head with telepaths can be tricky, but Laura is relying on pure instinct to find her sister. We saw her chasing a van that supposedly had Gabby in captivity,  but that was an illusion since the sisters knew Laura would be after them. That action sequence was the best because of the detail Cabal put into it. We learn why exactly The Cuckoos wanted Gabby so bad. Dr. Marks learned how to put the psyche of one clone into another’s body. They are going to put Esme’s mind into Gabby’s body. They flipped the switch, so we’ll see next issue if they succeeded. Laura said she’s sworn of killing, but nobody messes with her Gabby and gets away with it.

Hey nerds! I'm a 23 year old cosplayer from Southern California who loves comic books as well! I love going to metal and punk shows. I'm a hostess on Shoot The Breeze Comics' shows Thought Bubbles, Panel to Panel, and Guardians of the Con-Life.
Summary
Again, I feel like nothing exciting happens in the end. I literally read through this is 3 minutes. There’s a lot of build up but little development to Tamaki’s stories. I didn’t even have a bias to go off of for Tamaki I don’t think I’ve ever read anything she’s written.
Good
  • Great art by Cabal again
Bad
  • It just seems like filler content most of the issues then boom cliffhanger
  • The plot drags on and doesn’t get to the point
