Story so Far:

Flashback time! The Red Queen is still running rampant, while Barbara, partnered up with Dick, are doing their best to track her down. Nanobots are being used to get high, or to take over someone’s body all together, as Dick finds out. An unfortunate incident with someone’s death occurs after he makes the decision to try to short out the nanobots in her. Barbara’s friend has bitten off way more than she can chew.

We’re still mid-flashback right now, as Batgirl and Robin are tracking down the Mad Hatter in order to find their elusive enemy, the Red Queen. Barbara knows her friend Ainsley is in trouble, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to save her from her mistakes this time. It’s revealed that Ainsley is a drug addict, her drug of choice being the nanobots that Barbara and Dick had discovered previously. A group of employees at the same hospital Ainsley has been seen going to turned on the patients screeching about the Red Queen. Barbara’s quick thinking saves the lives of everyone there. The nanobots are the newest hallucinogenic fad to pop up, and a specific song is the key to start the hallucinations. Who is the Red Queen? What does she want with Ainsley?

This is a great iteration of Batgirl. She’s lively, well drawn, intelligent, and a fun heroine to watch grow. The pacing is perfect; not too fast, not to slow. The art is clean, expressive, and well proportioned. The Rebirth was a great new beginning for Barbara, and I’m interested to see just where this arc takes her character growth. If you haven’t read this series yet, you should.

Have your say!
