Last time: Terry McGinnis broke into a fight with one of his old nemeses, the Royal Flush Gang. The numbers in their deck dramatically reduced as Jack, King and Ace held up a decent fight against Batman before literally breaking out an old classic; Ace picking up Terry in two hands and snapping him over his knee.
What’s Happening? With Reed Strong: Bruce reminds both the audience and characters that he’s always prepared, as a snarky Terry pops back up to his feet to blow Ace away, remarking that a suit that can withstand gunfire isn’t going to fall-prey to one of Bruce’s enemies’ most common finishers. Terry handily cleans the floor with the gang and leaves them for the police, making his way off as an old foe stalks him in the moonlight, commanded by a mysterious hooded figure. A masked burglar manages to break into Wayne Manor and make their exit while Bruce and Matt trail behind. Terry’s date with Dana gets cut short as Stalker makes his reappearance, tossing Dana to the deadly streets stories below and Terry follows her in his batsuit with damaged wings.
Reed Strong’s Read: With two more reemergences from Terry’s past, the Royal Flush Gang paired with the fight with Stalker continues to help paint a past for this Batman that stretches out far beyond the limited comics we’ve had in this Rebirth and DCYou era. Matt and Bruce continue to be a fun batcave duo, the Royal Flush Gang is still always fun to beat up, and seeing Terry interact with his real rogues gallery again helps start off a back-to-basics arc for the Gotham of the Future.
