Recently Boom! Studios and Saban Brands gave us our first look at Power Rangers: Shattered Grid. The first comic book event in the franchises 25 year history. Beginning in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, releasing March 21st, 2018, the issue itself being sealed in a special bag to prevent spoilers on release.
“Lord Drakkon – a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger) – has made his first, devastating move in his plan to destroy the Power Rangers and now they must strike back…but they won’t be doing it alone!” said Boom! Studios about issue 25
In issue 26, Lord Drakkon’s victory seems assured—unless the Rangers can find a way to team up with another team of Power Rangers they’ve never met before! This issue features a main cover by Jamal Campbell (Green Arrow), with variant covers by Jordan Gibson (America) and Carlos Villa (Lockjaw).
With finally Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Annual #1, from fan-favorite writers Kyle Higgins, Ryan Parrott & more, along with artists Marcus To (Guardians of the Galaxy), Dylan Burnett (Interceptor) & more! Featuring fan-favorite teams from across the Power Rangers universe—Dino Charge, RPM, Time Force, Ninja Steel, Dino Thunder—the entire fabric of reality is under threat as Drakkon invades! This issue features a main cover from Dan Mora (Klaus), along with variant covers by George Caltsoudas (Star Trek: Discovery) and Matt Taylor (Shade: The Changing Girl).

“Call me sentimental, but I love anniversaries. Over the last two years, I’ve been weaving threads in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, all leading to the 25th anniversary of the franchise,” said series writer Kyle Higgins. “SHATTERED GRID is a massive Power Rangers event that’s both a celebration of the property and also the largest comics story I’ve ever tackled. Lord Drakkon’s plan is so much bigger than our Rangers, our world, and even our universe. The Grid is shattering, every Power Ranger in all of existence is at risk, and it’s going to take more than just the Mighty Morphin team to stand against Drakkon’s armies.”
This event is pulling rangers from across time with both Time Force and SPD, as well as different universes with RPM and Dino Charge (with the ending of Dino Charge making it having no choice but to be in a different universe). This event also answers the cries of many that were growing tired of the comic playing solely off the nostalgia of the original MMPR team of rangers and finally digging into the 25 years of history that is Power Rangers. This event might even redeem the lack luster “Legendary War” that occurred in Power Rangers Super Mega Force.
The only fear moving forward is can this event maintain a cohesive story while also having multiple rangers multiple eras? We will find out when Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Shattered Grid, hits stores this March. Are you excited for Shattered Grid? Let us know in the comments and on twitter @shootthebreezeC.
