The Gangs All Here (All New Wolverine #29 Comic Review)

All-New Wolverine #29-Orphans of X Part 5

Writer: Tom Taylor

Art: Juann Cabal

Color: Nolan Woodard

Cover: Elizaberg Torque

Letters: Cory Petit

Synopsis: Laura, Daken, Gabby, and Laura’s family had sought refuge in Japan with Murumasa himself, the man who had made the blade with the ability to kill Wolverine. The Orphans were able to mold that into bullets and are on the hunt for them.

What You’ll Need To Know: The Orphans are a group of people who each have personal vendettas for mutants. Like WORSE than Friends of Humanity. They have been the descendants of the casualties than the X-Men are “responsible” for. They are a legitimate organization and have the means and tech to kill Laura, someone with a healing factor. They go through a ritual and Laura has armor made for her. We left off last issue where we have Old Man Logan, Lady Deathstrike, and Sabretooth in an arena with The Orphans, guns to their head, and shot down.

In This Issue: We start the issue with a dead Logan. What could this mean for every other comic with Logan? P.S. It is not as emotional as the movie. Is he even dead? Still, a shot to the head with a bullet that severely injured Daken. Point: These people are insane and powerful. Especially with undead ninjas of The Hand now. They continuously prove it and they have an army. One of the only chances is that they have is that The Orphans are not going for fatal shots, only because they want ALL the Orphans to watch them die. If they are captured, they will face the same fate as Logan, Sabretooth, and Lady Deathstrike. People who have been pretty freakin’ hard to kill over history. While Laura fights them all of, Daken devises a plan to actually get kidnapped, well-knowing he will be killed. His words are “Bring me back!”. Either he knows there’s a way to reverse the effects or he has a lot of faith in Laura.

Summary
There are a lot of things that can go wrong but that is what makes a comic book so gripping and keeps you hooked for the next issue. The cover art by Woodard is awesome and it shows how dire their situation is. Cabal always delivers good art in all the different settings the comic takes place in.
Good
  • Orphans of X has been one of the best storyline’s yet
  • Dead Mutants (Holy $%@#!)
  • Who is the Gorgon? Have The Hand gone completely rogue?
