Previously: On the search for answers surrounding his father’s possible escape from the death of Krypton, Superman used the Cosmic Treadmill to travel to the moment of his homeworld’s destruction, but he wound up on a Krypton from a different timeline. Booster Gold pursued and retrieved Superman, but they accidentally crash-landed in the 25th century. After fleeing the authorities from Booster’s home timeline, they escape in the Time Sphere only to crash again at an unknown time and location, at the feet of a giant statue of General Zod. In the present, general Sam Lane has been kidnapped while deep undercover, and Lois is the only one willing to try and save him. Unbeknownst to her, her son has stowed away to follow her!

What happened: Booster Gold and Superman are once again stranded in a strange place, and before they can find out where or when it is, they are approached by a small security robot who instructs them to kneel. Superman refuses, and Booster Gold blasts the robot when it says that it will report them. Skeets tells the two heroes that he has deciphered that they are a few decades in the future. Hell also informs them that they are on a planet that was once called Jekull, but has been New Krypton since General Zod and his family came and conquered the planet. Before they can learn anymore, they are attacked by another Eradicator Robot, presumably one that was dispatched when Booster blasted the other security bot. No longer under a red sun, Superman easily destroys the robot and declares that it’s time to go back to the present. Skeets tells Superman that the Time Sphere is too damaged, but that the tech in the Eradicator Robot implies that suitable replacement parts can be found nearby.

Back in the present, Lois Lane parachutes in Logomban territory with the help of an Air Force pilot who owes General Lane an unpayable debt. On the ground, she meets with an old friend who thanks her for coming and takes her into the city. Once there, Lois leaves her friend behind and meets with a new contact who disguises her and takes her to the city’s palace. The disguises fail, and Lois is forced to knock out a security guard. She tells her friend to go, that she can do the rest alone. Throughout the entire adventure, Superboy follows his mother, confident that if she needs backup, he’ll be there to help.

On New Krypton, Superman and Booster Gold sneak into the city with the help of Skeets controlling the downed Eradicator Robot. The plan goes awry very quickly when the two are noticed by the original Eradicator! He is confused to see Superman and Booster Gold looking several years too young, and quickly deduces that they are time travellers. Superman tries to fight off the Eradicator while Booster looks for parts, but both are stopped by a sudden and vicious attack from Lor Zod, General Zod’s adult son!

Thoughts on the issue: The newest location on the Booster and Big Blue road trip is New Krypton, and finally it feels like this story is an actual story, and not just an excuse for father/son moments. The whole issue is a slow build to an admittedly predictable reveal that is spoiled by the cover art, but it’s still fun along the way. Superman finally lets loose and gets to fight Eradicators of two different varieties, Skeets and Booster have some funny moments, and we finally get a satisfying intermission to break up the pacing. Rather than the previous single-page detours to Lois’ plan to save her father, she’s finally in Logomba and doing more than planning on travelling a little more. Superboy’s presence, however, is starting to feel less like a character choice and more like a deus ex machina ready to be deployed whenever he’s needed.
