Still trying to piece together the fate of Black Widow, Clint and Buckeye find more questions while looking for answers…
At the end of the last issue, our two protagonists met. They discovered that they are indeed on the same side with their hatred for all things Hydra aside. A powerful explosion closed the last issue. At the beginning of this one, they start by narrowly escaping certain death, per usual. Winter Soldier and Hawkeye regroup to figure out what to do next and meet an old associate of Hawkeye’s. After figuring a way ahead, the situation goes from bad to worse when it appears that the associate dies. They spot a mystery figure and give chase for a good part of the issue. While chasing them, Clint starts to suspect that it is in fact Black Widow, though Bucky isn’t necessarily won over by the idea. As the chase continues, they realize the mysterious individual moves identically and just as fluidly as the Black Widow they are familiar with. Unfortunately, they lose track of her. They do, however, manage to run into her again after locating the next supposed victim the assassin was targeting. Who is this assassin?
This book to me seemed like a slower burn than the first issue, but it definitely picked up when the action got started. Though I predicted the assassin wasn’t Black Widow, I was only partially correct. The banter between Clint and Bucky is pretty funny with Bucky going back and forth about his likes and dislikes for Hawkeye. You really start to see the differences between the two characters in response to the ever changing situation in their environment. Their personalities merge well. This is especially complimented with the mutual connection to Natasha they share.
