Wakanda Forever! The Dora Milaje Get Their Own Title!

Dora milage & Spider-man

Marvel announces a new mini-series to revolve around the most skilled and fiercest fighting force in Wakanda, the Dora Milaje. Among the extraordinary cast of Marvel Studio’s Black Panther, the armed guardians of the Throne of Wakanda stole the show. Award winning sci-fi and fantasy author Nnedi Okorafor will be penning the comic with artistic duties being covered by Alberto Jimenez Alqurquerque (Jean Grey). Okorafor will take the warriors out of the borders of Wakanda and into New York City to meet with the spectacular webslinger, Peter Parker in Wakanda Forever: Amazing Spider-Man #1.

Long Live the King

Nnedi Okorafor won the Hugo and Nebula Awards for her best-selling book series Binti trilogy, Who Fears Death, and Akaka Witch. Okorafor is not new to comics as she recently helmed the digital comic series Black Panther: Long Live the King and the Vernomverse anthology story “Blesing in Disguise.” Earlier today, Okorafor spoke with Vogue Magazine about her experience writing and the plan for the Midnight Angels.

“I’m super excited about writing this storyline. Powerful disciplined African women with futuristic spears who faced their shortcomings and changed a nation? Oh heck yeah, I’m so there,” shared Okorafor. “Fans of the Dora Milaje can look forward to seeing them out in the world beyond T’Challa and the Wakandan throne’s shadow. They’ll get to see the Dora Milaje come into their own, while teaming up with the unexpected.” The story carries on in Wakanda Forever: X-Men #1 and Wakanda Forever: Avengers #1 in July and August.

The comic will highlight Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka in all-new stories protecting Wakanda beyond it’s walls. The films introduced these characters to a whole new audience but they are no strangers to those of us who have been reading Ta-Nehisi Coates’ run of Black Panther. Vogue contemplates the possibility of a the momentum building even to a TV series or a film. Okorafor opines, “People have craved these types of characters for a while, and I don’t think that craving is going to pass; it’s something that is here to stay.”

I do a few reviews (Black Panther) and I do news. I am a fan of both Marvel and DC heroes, Black Panther, Superman, Batman, The X-Men, Watchmen, to name a few. I also am streamer of a high degree, Netflix, Hulu plus, HBO, & Prime Video occupy a lot of my time when I'm not trying to save world in Education.
