What you need to know:

There is a new enemy emerging from the past: Onyx. Prime. He’s back and dangerous. How will the team cope?

What just happened?

Optimus Prime continues to astound me with how deep the dialogue can be. John Barber’s focus on the characters is fantastic as he develops them in complex ways. It’s wonderful to see how they change and how it helps the entire story grow. I feel like his work is truly masterful. I enjoy it a lot.

However, it can also lead to the story being tough to get through so it is a little hit and miss and maybe a little too heavy. Anyway onto the story and we view a past scene from Soundwave and how complicated his friendship or frustrated that there is still a Prime to be held accountable by. Soundwave has an important role on Earth using the natural resource of Ore 13, it is apparent quite quickly that he is needed on Cybertron. Onyx Prime has some form of ship in the shape of a massive eye reminds me of when Unicrons head stalked Cybertron in the cartoon series.

Onyx plan is clear Cybertonians should not be in such alliances with lessor creatures is his intention to ruin Optimus hard work with planet Earth. What’s really interesting to me is Starscream and Bumblebee. Is it in his head? Or on some sort of other dimension like an astroplane? Either way, it’s pretty darn bizarre! This series still revolves around politics and beliefs, however, is what Onyx Prime offers too good to refuse? Will it have worse repercussions than they can handle?

Final Thoughts

As much as I enjoy the series, at times, the art makes it rough on my eyes to really continue digging it. It’s really interesting, but in terms of this story, Onyx Prime just doesn’t do it for me as a villain. No excitement. Maybe if this isn’t just a rushed one off story arc, he might become a character I will come to enjoy. He’s just too flat right now.
