DC’s first ever Publisher’s Panel livestream at Wondercon had a lot of news to take in. You knew it was going to be big the second Dan DiDio and Jim Lee were on the panel together. Dan and Jim, along with some of DC’s top editors and comic book talent, discussed some of the upcoming narratives that keep DC in the lead of publishing.
Scott Snyder revealed the latest on his four issue miniseries Justice League: No Justice that he’s working on with co-writers James Tynion IV (Detective Comics) and Joshua Williamson (The Flash, Vertigo’s Deathbed) and artist Francis Manapul (Trinity). Two new Justice League titles and talent teams are spinning out from Justice League: No Justice! Snyder shocked everyone when he announced that the two Justice League titles will debut from the May mini-series. Each title will feature new team rosters: Justice League Dark written by Tynion with art by Alvaro Martinez, inked by Raul Fernandez, and colors by Brad Anderson and Justice League Odyssey, written by Williamson, with art by Stjepan Sejic. Both titles are set to launch in June.
Scott also talked about the incredible finish fans can expect when Dark Nights: Metal reaches its conclusion with issue #6 (Releasing March 28). He hinted that the conclusion of Metal will have massive repercussions throughout the DC Universe. He wasn’t kidding when he announced that Adam Glass, writer for the ever popular TV shows Supernatural and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders will be joining Bernard Chang as the talent team working on Teen Titans beginning with issue #20 in June! In addition to Damian Wayne (Robin) leading Kid Flash and Red Arrow into new adventures, several brand new characters will be added to the roster, including the daughter of the Main Man, LOBO!
Last month, readers were in shock at Vertigo’s announcement that they will return to the Dreaming in a Neil Gaiman-curated The Sandman Universe imprint this August. Today, Vertigo and DC Black Label Executive Editor Mark Doyle, along with guest Nalo Hopkinson who will pen the House of Whispers title, teased fans with the first look at Bilquis Evely’s interiors for The Sandman Universe #1. Hopkins shared her excitement about the transition from novelist to comic book writer as well as some first insights into the mysterious new house and its proprietor. Hopkins has big plans for the readers, and we get to see them starting August 8, 2018 in The Sandman Universe #1!
MAD magazine’s “Usual Gang of Idiots” featured a mix of new and old this time around. The publishers were talking to new Executive Editor Bill Morrison about what fans can expect from the new version of America’s #1 humor magazine, you know, in a field of one! Any worries and fears old-school MAD fans had were put to rest when long-time artist and creator of “Spy vs. Spy” Sergio Aragones took the stage. Aragones took the chance to reflect on his past work and his upcoming involvement with the new-look MAD. A tease of what the book will look like as a brand-new wrap around cover for MAD #1 (on sale April 17) was revealed which features a new logo!
