Ever wonder if your daydreams are visions of a real place where the events that transpire are actually happening elsewhere? Myself included, haven’t we all imagined what it would be like to save the world? Diving so deep into the thoughts that coming back to reality feels like waking up, practically smelling the surroundings of the location your mind has delivered you?
The Breakdown:
Immortal Men: The End of Forever Part 1, created by Jim Lee and James Tynion, is a new series that follows teenager Caiden Park as his dissociative daydreams find him in the center of a conflict as old as humanity. Straight out of the gate we are thrust into Caiden’s mind as he imagines a world where he and others like him are gifted with powers they’ve yet to understand, fighting to survive what appears to be a culling of their kind. Caiden runs in futility trying to escape his own doom when a mysterious glowing man pulls him from a certain end. Thrust back into reality, Caiden wakes up on the floor of Grand Central Station dazed, confused and disoriented. His therapist insists that these visions are safe places his mind had created for him in times of stress, but Caiden isn’t buying it, the man who is constantly following him isn’t buying it, and the glowing man isn’t buying it.
Opinions and Such:
We are introduced to new faces and we are reunited with some old, this first issue has me salivating for more with the vague yet fulfilling introduction of the Immortal Men, to the ominous and domineering Infinite Woman and her murderous organization known only as the House of Conquest. This introduction to the series has me pretty excited to see what’s in store for these characters, with artwork that can be pulled straight from the mind of a comic book reading metal head reminiscent of the famous Hush comics we’ve seen from Lee in the past. Each illustration compliments the text it accompanies in a manner that makes you read faster because the need to know more is insatiable.
