I Did This For Love Too (Old Man Hawkeye #4 Comic Review)

Writer: Ethan Sacks

Artist: Marco Chechetto

Cover: Marco Chechetto

With Clint still going blind while being hunted by Bullseye and Venom, his mission continues. He is still on his quest for revenge for what happened to his fellow Avengers at the hands of Red Skull and the villain community banding together. It’s a race between these characters to see who gets to the goal first. Bullseye and Venom are in pursuit…

Recap:
This one starts with Hawkeye confronting another former friend while being scoped out by Bullseye. He takes aim at him with a Sniper Rifle. Before he can take a shot, he is accosted by a few assailants sent by the Red Skull. He was shirking his duties under the new regime and alienated Red Skull due to obsessing over Hawkeye. He hasn’t fought a super hero in years and seeing Clint back in action has piqued his curiosity. Bullseye defeats his attackers, though he is wounded by one of them. This results in him calling off his hunt. We then go to Clint and his opponent engaging in combat. They’re talking and fighting with Clint missing a few shots with his Arrows. Shots he should usually make. Still he manages to get the upper hand and kill his next target. As he lays dead Clint finds a note he wrote to a love interest who Hawkeye promised he would kill as well. Venom attempts to get information on Hawkeye’s whereabouts and succeeds tracking him down toward of the issue. We leave off with Venom tracking Hawkeye to a bar he is drinking in. Next issue we should see our first but I’m not assuming not only battle between the two.

Opinion:
This issue was pretty good imo. It was as good as the last one definitely. This version of Bullseye is great and shows how ruthless he can be with the storytelling on point as usual. I’m liking this grittier version of the Hawkeye character so far and seeing how dedicated he is to seeing this mission through. I can see how folks on the opposite have moved on and are trying to lead better lives considering the situation but somethings you just can’t come back from. I’m fully invested in this story and excited to see where it leads.

Summary
This ride has been fairly consistent thus far and I really like Clint running into and killing his old friends. The emotional weight is taking a heavy toll on him. This one is well written and a very enjoyable experience. Next issue we have Venom attacking but the main fight I’m here for is Hawkeye and Bullseye. I’m sure that will be pay per view worthy, even with Clint’s vision slowly but surely fading. Hop on this one if you haven’t it’s a great story.
