What You Need to Know: Scott Snyder’s magnum opus and everything he and Capullo had promised to pay off and we’re leading up to with Metal is finally upon us. Was it worth it? Well that’s what I will be answering here today.

What Just Happened: Anyway long story short Dark Nights Metal ended with the Justice League succeeding in saving the Multiverse but at a great cost. The damage to the Source Wall proving to be too much unleashes the universe to new threats. That’s all I’ll give away because I definitely think that it’s worth reading.

My Thoughts: Honestly I think I’m in love, I loved everything about this comic from start to finish and I think it easily has the potential to become one of the greatest DC team up event comics to happen in years. Being akin to other larger than life events like Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet as well as Crisis on Infinite Earths and Forever Evil. This book immediately drops you into the action and doesn’t let go. Doing everything I would want from such a grand scale conflict in such a high profile event series. The stakes are established early on and they have never been higher and they’re on a level that we’ve never seen before(maybe even bigger than the Anti Monitor or Darkseid War).

Having so many characters here to play with immediately makes this story one worth reading in my opinion plus most of them are characters that I love. Lobo, Beast Boy, Starfire, Zatanna, Manhunter, Fate, The Demon, Luthor, Slade, Sinestro, Raven, Atom, and various others make the dialogue here to die for. Starro is immediate scene stealer and I love the obvious call back to his debut appearance with the opening fight with Brainiac. That being said the highlight of this series is obviously going to be the interactions between the characters and of course the fun of using so many iconic and beloved characters from DC’s reputable library. Roster aside I am a little bit worried that Snyder, Williamson and Co maybe biting off more than they can chew this is a limited series after all with only 4 issues behind it. Now I’m not saying it has to be a 12 issue or even Countdown length but at the same time it is concerning when Dark Nights Metal is longer especially when this story seems way more ambitious, bigger in scale, and is a JUSTICE LEAGUE story.

As of thus far however this is the story I wanted Dark Nights Metal to be. Point is this is the the Justice League story that I’ve been waiting for and it reminds me why I even fell in love with these characters in the first place. This is everything that I could have wanted from this story and literally the story 8 year old me would have written. The Justice League, the Teen Titans, the Titans, the Suicide Squad, the JLA, and a handful of random grab bag villains and you’ve automatically got my interest. Throw Snyder on as lead writer, Williamson on as co-writer(who is writing one of my favorite rebirth series in the Flash and doing an extraordinary job at that), and Manapul as artist(who drew the art to one of my favorite New 52 titles in the Flash as well). Real original I don’t even feel the need to comment on the artwork because you should already know it’s incredible. Point is at the end of the day I have been waiting for a story like this for years and I see the immediate potential this has to offer and could bring the already massive and ever growing and expanding DC Universe. I can’t wait to see how Snyder uses this to set up Odyssey.

This is easily my favorite comic of the year(besides Terrifics and only until Odyssey drops most likely) my point is I eagerly await issue 2 and this is easily a must buy for any life long fans of DC and I cannot wait to see what Snyder and the duration of the series has to offer. Man, what a comic.
