X-23 #2-Two Birthday and Three Funerals Part 2

Writer: Mariko Tamaki

Art: Juann Cabal

Color: Nolan Woodard

Cover: Mike Choi and Jesus Aburtov

Variant: Rahzzah

Synopsis: X-23 continues to find the missing geneticist, while Gabby pesters her about finding out their birthday. Meanwhile, they Stepford Cuckoos-who are also clones-have their birthday all figured out, but they have a dilemma with their sister’s mortality.

What You’ll Need To Know: X-23 has had her run as Wolverine, and she did an awesome job at it. Logan is returning as Wolverine, so she is just working with Gabby and the rest of the X-Men. The first issue starts with Laura’s birthday, which she does not want to acknowledge, to her it is just another day. She went through too much pain before to be excited.

In This Issue: Let’s just say Laura has bigger problems to deal with than her birthday! She has been suspicious of the Cuckoos, well since they’re weird as hell. The people who kidnapped Dr. Marks are closer than she thinks. Of course, it’s the Cuckoos. We saw them dealing with their other 2 sisters, who are somehow still alive but withering away. They appear decrepit and in need of a cure. The Cuckoos discover one of their sisters has passed overnight, but we all saw that coming from the last book. That causes them to further their plan. They already have a geneticist; why do they need Gabby?

Hey nerds! I'm a 23 year old cosplayer from Southern California who loves comic books as well! I love going to metal and punk shows. I'm a hostess on Shoot The Breeze Comics' shows Thought Bubbles, Panel to Panel, and Guardians of the Con-Life.
Summary
This story isn’t holding up to All-New Wolverine sad to say, I know it’s a beginner but I’m not hooked yet and I felt like all the action took place the last 4 pages. I feel like we have a strong character like Laura and her awesome team up with Gabby and it just isn’t reaching its full potential. Art saved it from being below average.
Good
  • Stepford Cuckoos reveal their intentions
  • Gabby's banter
Bad
  • Mostly uneventful
  • Hard to review
  • I feel like this all could have happened just in number 1
