Release the Hounds, Time’s Up! (Extermination Issue #1 Comic Review)

Extermination Issue One

Writer: Ed Brisson
Artist: Pepe Larraz

Cover: Mark Brooks
Letters: Jo Sabino

What you need to know:
Hank McCoy plucked the original X-men from the past and since they have not been able to return home, they have embraced the present even if they do not accept how their future selves have turned out.

What just Happened:
As usual a tale about time travel shows us another glimpse of the future. Back in the now, mutants are hated and feared with a rally turning nasty on a couple of mutants but the O5 X-men arrive with Bloodstorm to protect them.

After taking these mutants to Kitty and her team in Chicago, we are informed that these mutants have no memories meanwhile Bloodstorm finally gets her date with Scott although he expresses his concern that it may be over soon. But like all dates it is interrupted by Ahab of all people and it does not end well.

So with Jean raising the code to blue, Iceman heads back but is attacked however an alley lends a hand and does Bobby make it out. With Ahab on the loose, the X-men approach the expert Rachel Grey.

So who is the real villain of the piece? Whatever happens, time is crazy with the shocking end to this issue.

Final Thoughts
A fantastic issue! There are plenty of story with a great mix of action…I enjoyed how the characters were used and if this is the end, I hope they do it right and not fob off the fans. From the moment the O5 were pulled into the future the question has always been how do they return after all the crazy changes they have gone through.

It’s hard to say this without spoiling the comic but for a character that has been underused I was certainly moved by the tragic moment but with the second shocking twist, it blew my mind and threw me back to moments like Messiah complex which was an amazing event.

I am hooked and cannot wait for more surprises in the next issue…

I have been into comics since the early 90's and my main passion has been X-men I collect books, figures and any collectiables I can get my hands on. For shoot the breeze I have the pleasure opening my eyes to new worlds and adventures. I also do the Across the Pond Trades where I get an opportunity to look at trade paperbacks and review them via our YouTube channel. I also have my own Facebook page and Youtube called Smerdp which is full of plastic goodness. Many Thanks Paul
