SYNOPSIS:

Picking up after the events of the previous series, The Umbrella Academy is scattered and Professor Hargreeves is dead. Number Five is a hired gun, Kraken is stalking big game, Rumor is dealing with the wreckage of her marriage, a rotund Spaceboy runs around the streets of Tokyo, and Vanya continues her physical therapy after being shot in the head. [From Dark Horse’s synopsis:] and no one wants to even mention Seance until issue #2.

THOUGHTS:

I didn’t realize how much I had missed these characters until I jumped back into the series. The art style is just as quirky and fun as I remember. We are introduced to the strange Hotel Oblivion as a new guest checks in. Hargreeves isn’t as dead as we were led to believe, it seems. The hotel itself appears to be another dimension and, much like the Hotel California, you don’t get to check out. Meanwhile, the heroes are getting the band back together for one final ride. Of course this can’t be as idyllic as everyone hopes, as there are new fiends being teased and new dangers for our heroes.

The issue raises a few questions, mostly along the lines of ‘where can they possibly be going with this?’ and, as stated in the pages, ‘how can this get worse?’

Definitely grab this. Long-time fans will be thrilled to see everyone back, more or less, and the first issue promises to give us a series that will be a thrill ride.

Included are a few preview pages and the alternate cover! Check them out below!

Summary
I'm happy to be back in the weird world of The Umbrella Academy. The Netflix show coming up will bring in new fans, and this new series looks to be as weird as the first. I do suggest reading the first series again though, the new series might be a little tricky for newcomers.
