With the DC Universe streaming service’s launch fast approaching, DC has been busy casting actors for their characters in the service’s upcoming series. One such series is Swamp Thing, which is building up a fair amount of hype due to the involvement of horror maestro, James Wan, as executive producer and the show’s promise to bring rated R style horror to the DC Universe. DC is now rounding out the cast for this TV series.
cbr.com and Deadline has announced that “it has now been confirmed that actress Maria Sten (Straight Outta Compton, Channel Zero) will be playing the role of Elizabeth “Liz” Tremayne, journalist and a childhood friend of Abby’s.” cbr.com provided a background to the character Sten will be playing: “First appearing in 1982’s Swamp Thing #3, Liz has made a name for herself as an ally to both Abby Arcane and Swamp Thing (and, by extension, the likes of Matt Cable). Liz also uncovered key evidence in the murders of Alec and Linda Holland in the issue. Additionally, Liz has also had her fair share of personal trauma and tragedy to fight through.” cbr.com seems to assume that the show will depict the origin of Liz, “as we will see her bartending at her father’s roadhouse bar when she’s not writing for the local paper. Nevertheless, Liz appears to be as bound and determined as ever and is dead-set on getting to the bottom of the mysteries that threaten her hometown.” Swamp Thing is scheduled to be released sometime in 2019 according to cbr.com.
Swamp Thing seems to be one of the more highly anticipated shows that the DC Universe has to offer, and it is exciting to see casting news for the show. There is definitely a market for supernatural horror in the comic book TV series realm. Swamp Thing may be the show that makes me subscribe to the DC Universe.
