You may be thinking that this is an old post but it is most certainly not. One day after a new trailer was revealed for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Deadline reports that the February 14 release has been pushed back to next summer.
The film, likely the last film in the Fox-controlled X-Men franchise, was originally slated for a November 2, 2018 release but was pushed back to February. Now, from the Deadline report, the release of Dark Phoenix will be June 7, 2019. This date was slated for the release of X-Men character Gambit, starring Channing Tatum (who is still attached to the project but with no director) but will also be postponed to March 2020.
Questions abound over the reasoning for the change immediately after the trailer reveal. Are positive or negative reception to blame? Will there be more reshoots? There is already much speculation around the future integration of the “children of the atom” into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How and when are the prevailing questions because whether or not it will has been all but settled. Disney CEO, Bob Iger is quoted as saying, “it makes sense” for Kevin Feige to incorporate and “oversee” Fox’s Marvel properties and that, “There shouldn’t be two Marvels.” Only time will tell how this how plays out but keep an eye out.
Apparently, we’ll be checking out X-Men: Dark Phoenix on June 7, 2019 instead of February 14, 2019. Let us know what you think!
