Something we haven’t seen from DC in a little while, a collection of short stories and vignettes that all come together in a very interesting and meaningful way. Batman: Secret Files is that very book. Brought together almost like a storybook one would read to their children as I have started reading this comic to my daughter.
A total of five stories from all different writers, each having proved themselves in their writing, have a collective quality in this book. That all of the stories are concise, meaningful, and compelling all at the same time. A lot of times the multiple story comics can turn out to be a lot of noise without really grabbing you into these little worlds they construct. Secret Files seems to break the mold and honestly, I expected no lies considering the stars that stud the credits in this book. There’s not one square inch of this comic that wasn’t crafted to be consumed and chanted like a mantra for the next generations.
The artwork is another awesome thing about this book, each story having their own artist really lent to how compelling each story is. Each panel is full of relevant information to help us understand the subtext through the illustration. Not an easy feat but very nicely done here. This book, in my opinion, was absolutely wonderful. No ifs, ands, or buts, about it. Go pick this up at your local shop.
