What You Need to Know: The Spider-geddon war is raging on with the Spider-Men and Woman of as many dimensions as possible against the Inheritors who have returned to finish the job they started. But during the fight, our favorite Spider-Woman, also lovingly known as Spider-Gwen was attacked and her interdimensional teleporter ruined which casted her into another dimension. In this one, she turns to the only person any Gwen can trust, Peter Parker. But he tells her that he is not the one that can help, its actually his worlds Gwen Stacey; who happens to also be The Green Goblin!
In This Issue: Gwen and Mary-Jane are looking for leads to Goblin Gwen whereabouts, so they turn to Betty Brant and Glory Grant. While in Gwen’s world, they are her age and together in a band, in this World they are Investigative reporters. After some very hard convincing from Mary-Jane that Gwen is their Gwen, the ladies decide to include the duo on their investigation of the Goblin. When Gwen recognizes a specific place, she grabs Mary-Jane and the two swing into action, literally swing. After Mary-Jane is finished throwing up her lunch, the two sneak in and find that Gwen Goblin has in fact been hiding there. The two Gwen’s clash in an all-out fight to the death but its Mary-Jane who saves the day. After some quick science mumbo-jumbo, Gwen is able fix Spider-Gwen’s interdimensional teleporter and our girl is off to help her friends!
This was a pretty delightful issue and had some perfectly inserted light-hearted moments despite it being a dark issue. Not to mention Mary-Jane’s heartfelt “friendship is magic” moment trying to save Goblin Gwen. Not to mention any kind of Spider-Gwen fight with other Universe’s versions of Gwen is exciting to read. The only issue that got me was that, in the last issue, it was stated that Goblin Gwen had been basically going crazy for a few years now which is understandable. But when she is saved, it takes less than a few hours for her to be totally ok and back to her old self. That is the part I find slightly unbelievable, her taking just a little bit of time to go back to her old self after being so lost in her mind for so long. Granted, I get WHY it was done, our girl has only a few issues to get back to her Spider-geddon Story-arch but I would have liked a bit more time for Gwen’s mental transformation to be believable.
But hey, with Gwen about to hit the big screen, it’s ok by me.
