X-23 #8- X-Assassin Part 2

Writer: Mariko Tamaki

Art: Diego Olortegui

Cover: Ashley Witter

Color: Walden Wong and Chris O’Halloran
Letters: Cory Petit

Synopsis: Laura and Gabby face the creators of the X-Assassin…and find they might not agree on what to do about this barely human killer.

What You’ll Need To Know: So, the last issue Laura and Gabby were investigating the murders of a few scientists, sounds a familiar right? That’s the kind of thing that always gets them into trouble. Anyways, they find the assassin, and what they come to find shocks them. First the assassin had metal claws, like them, and a powerful magnetic pulse that almost got them of HER trail. They’re not that easy to escape though, Laura and Gabby were able to subdue the killer, and when they unmasked her, our X-Assassin turned out to be completely identical to them!

In This Issue: They decide to turn to arrest this “clone” into a rescue mission as the facility is broken into. Gabby wanted to save her. Not that she’s naive, she just sees the good in people. Laura, who has seen some s%&!, knows the bad things people are capable of. What she was capable of. She has changed and she’s grown in her roles Wolverine and X-23 respectively, but not everyone who has had a rough past like her has that capacity. At least that’s the way she sees it. We get a glimpse of Laura’s past, which we know she had a lot of blood on her hands, she was even controlled into killing her mother. This cyborg clone, isn’t exactly a clone, so does she have all the good parts that Laura has?

Hey nerds! I'm a 23 year old cosplayer from Southern California who loves comic books as well! I love going to metal and punk shows. I'm a hostess on Shoot The Breeze Comics' shows Thought Bubbles, Panel to Panel, and Guardians of the Con-Life.
Summary
We see Gabby trying really hard and hoping that this clone who’s not a clone can turn out to be good and be a member of their little family. And she kicks ass trying to protect her family! Anyways, this issue turned out a lot better than I expected. I’m happy! I feel like there’s a lot that can grow with it. The art was good, especially with the color scheme.
Good
  • Reflects a lot on early All-New Wolverine
  • This is a pretty interesting arc
  • Gabby shined in this comic!
Bad
  • I just hope the story line doesn’t peak at this one comic
