More About This Cyborg Clone (X-23 #9 Comic Review)

X-23 #9-X-Assassin Part 3

Inkers: Walden Wong, JP Mayer, and Scott Hanna

Cover: Ashley Witter

Synopsis: The mystery surrounding the X-Assassin grows, as Laura investigates its origins and Gabby does her best to find the humanity deep in its robot heart… But the X-Assassin isn’t the only threat facing the sisters!

What You’ll Need To Know:  Laura and Gabby found the assassin they were tracking, and it turned out to be a cybernetic clone of them. Gabby is eager to get to know this new family member, whereas Laura is extremely skeptical.

In This Issue: Med-X are the one responsible for these killer robots. And they’ve been expecting Laura! A fight with some robots, Gabby trying to turn their “sister” good, it’s not the most eventful. Which is kind of something that happens often in this comic. We’ll have kind of an uneventful plot and a sort of cliffhanger at the end. It repeats that cycle a lot. I try to give it a chance and reread but it’s still like *yawn*. It picked up before then sort of deteriorated. I feel like Gabby started off adding something different and something good to the story and now it’s not like that anymore. Of course it’s great to have comedic relief in any sort of story, but it’s excessive and it’s not even really that comedic. It’s trying to hard to be “hip”.

Summary
I’ve said my peace, I’m not trying to be a hater but it’s really annoying. I feel like as a reviewer and reader I’ve given the comic a chance but compared to Tom Taylor’s run of All-New Wolverine, Tamaki gives us a sub-par comic.
Good
  • Stan's SoapBox
  • Laura's Robot Battle
Bad
  • Filler story
  • Not super memorable, kind of repetitive
