You’re Only As Powerful as Your Ratings (Mr. & Mrs. X #8 Comic Review)

Mr. and Mrs. X #8-Gambit and Rogue Forever Part 2

Writer: Kelly Thompson

Artist: Oscar Bazaldua

Cover: Terry and Rachel Dodson

Color: Frank D’Armata

Letters: Joe Sabino

Synopsis: Spiral jumps into the fray! But whose side is she really on? Will Rogue and Gambit ever get the vacation they deserve?

What You’ll Need To Know: Rogue and Gambit have been trapped in the Mojo-Verse. Mojo knows this couple brings a lot of action and drama, so they’d be best suited for his show! Think of the ratings! However, things are not going as smoothly as planned. Even with this romantic Noir tale, ratings do not boost as Rogue ends up killing Gambit! Mojo doesn’t want a tragedy.

In This Issue: Mojo tries to take a different approach and do a fairytale romance, where Longshot makes an appearance. He was added for the appeal of a love triangle. Who doesn’t like that kind of drama? Maybe not, but it makes them talk, it keeps them invested. This fairytale, princess in a castle show may have been good for Mojo’s plan but the same outcome as Noir, Rogue accidentally kills Gambit. This is a whole different type of outcome! That, and it is slowly keeping her out of Mojo’s control. Mojo tries other genres and same thing, Gambit keeps dying! He seems to have missed the memo or her powers evolving and going crazy! Mojo tries something different, a reality show! It’s unscripted, not fantasy. All should go according to plan of no one interferes. Except a sexy, 6 armed interdimensional traveler! Spiral claims she is there to help, but she’s been a thorn in the X-Men’s side multiple times. She explains she can set them free AND help with Rogue’s new abilities. Gambit of course questions why she would do that, but she needs assistance in exchange for their freedom (even though she was partially responsible for their kidnapping). She needs Gambit to steal for her, he is one of the best thieves in the world afterall.

Hey nerds! I'm a 23 year old cosplayer from Southern California who loves comic books as well! I love going to metal and punk shows. I'm a hostess on Shoot The Breeze Comics' shows Thought Bubbles, Panel to Panel, and Guardians of the Con-Life.
Summary
I think Rogue and Gambit were the perfect superhero couple to be selected for Mojo-verse’s show. They bring the fun and spice to any story. Any other super couple wouldn’t make it nearly as interesting. I also think Gambit and Spiral working together could put an interesting spin on things! This issue was well put together and a good read. The art and color were great like always, and there’s always great detail. I love how bright it is. I highly recommend and see this comic getting better and better!
