Gambit and Rogue are CANCELLED (Mr. and Mrs. X #9 Comic Review)

Mr. and Mrs X #9-Gambit and Rogue Forever Part 3

Writer: Kelly Thompson

Artist: Oscar Bazaldua

Cover: Terry and Rachel Dodsen

Color:Frank D’Armata

Letters: Joe Sabino

Synopsis: Gambit must use all his thieving skills to steal a precious object. Spiral must single-handedly (or is that multi-handedly?) fight off Mojo’s minions. And Rogue is on a mental trip reliving all her defining mutant memories. Not a great time for self-reflection, Rogue!

What You’ll Need To Know: It’s been a little while since Mr. and Mrs. #8 came out so let’s catch ourselves up a bit. Rogue and Gambit have been stuck in Mojo’s Universe and he lives for entertainment and ratings. Rogue and Gambit seem like they perfect couple to boost his ratings, sadly, not in the genre he wants. Every storyline ends up in tragedy. Mojo doesn’t know the new extent of Rogue’s powers so she always ends up killing Gambit. With the shock of all of this. Rogue cannot control her powers. It seems pretty hopeless that they’ll break out of this loop, until a seductive woman comes Gambit’s way. By the way, props to this Cajun Charmer for staying so faithful to Rogue with all her advances. She does make an offer he can’t refuse though, a way to be free from Mojo. Turns out this sexy lady at the bar turns out to be Spiral, a six-armed space and time traveler. She offers to help Gambit and free Rogue, if he-The Greatest Thief in  the World- steals something for Spiral.

In This Issue: Fear is magnificent in its simplicity and complexity. Rogue is one of the strongest mutants in the world (fight me), but fear has done a pretty good part in controlling her. That’s why she can’t break out of Mojo’s grip so easy. Think about it, her biggest fears keep happening, her fear of human contact and being able to drain people without it, thinking she keeps killing Gambit? That has taken a toll on her and caused her a lot of stress. Mojo is taking advantage of that. I would also like to know what use the slaves have for the baby. Which I’m assuming is of course Spiral’s, they have the same amount of arms. Is Mojo keeping her from the baby?

Now that the newly weds and Spiral will be free, what will that do to Mojo’s ratings? And what will he do to them now that he has no more use for them.

Summary
Great issue! First I love that Thompson and Bazaldua pay homage to Rogue’s old outfits and her comic history. That’s something we see a lot throughout the comic. Second, I think Gambit finding a baby as his item to steal making it interesting and shows a different side to a classic villain.I’m really excited to see how this arc wraps up!
Good
  • I love the cover! We get to see so many of her old outfits
