In This Issue:

Sonic and Amy infiltrate an old Eggman base. They access his computer and discover blueprints for a project. Meanwhile, Eggman has been experimenting with turning animals into living metal badniks. When the abandoned base comes back online and Amy begins searching files, Eggman dispatches Rough and Tumble. Unfortunately for them, Sonic and Amy make a better team than the rhyming brothers. Only in the face of certain defeat, do the brothers unleash their new secret weapon, and become ZOMBOTS!

Kai’s Thoughts:

I really love this series, and reviewing it as an adult when it is clearly meant for children is hard to balance the dichotomy between “do I like it?” and “would kids like it?” This issue is scary. We see the living metal virus come to life in Rough and Tumble. It doesn’t do much to move the plot along aside from that specific point. The art is great, as usual. Seeing the more Classic but modern Sonic design is refreshing in the face of all that movie business. The last issue was a great jumping on point, this issue gets right to the point and is made up mostly of a fight scene. I didn’t hate it, but I’m not enamored with this issue. It’s very much a transitional issue, slow-paced but necessary.

Summary
Definitely feeling the 'this is a kid's book' this issue. Kind of slow but necessary to get the plot moving. Not bad, just kind of boring and very evidently a kid's book. Can't win 'em all. This is not an issue you can skip if you're reading the series. Be warned, the ZOMBOTS are kind of scary in a terminator kind of way.
Good
  • great art
  • snarky dialogue in a good way
  • feels like Sonic
  • Eggman's password tho
Bad
  • just kind of boring, but necessary
  • minimal dialogue
