What You Need to Know: Jane Foster knows she can’t have an ordinary life now that she is the last Valkyrie and today is another example when life draining demons rose from beneath Midgard and begin killing civilians. Valkyrie and no All-Father Thor ask the Avengers to protect the upper levels of Earth while the duo go underground to find the source. There they find the body of Ode, and ancient King who tried to harness the power of an antilife entity from the beginning of time called “The Rokkva”. He was eventually killed and the Rokkva was imprisoned inside the mountains of Jotunhim but someone has stolen Ode’s body and used the Sap of the World Tree to revive him and thus Rokkva’s power. Of course, Thor tried to destroy the remains but was instead possessed by the murderous energy inside Ode’s Body!

In This Issue: When a Hero or Warrior dies, their souls go to Vallhalla to enjoy retelling their tales during the Eternal Feast. In these halls, Tyr Odinson, brother to Thor and Loki has been sent to serve drinks and food as punishment for betraying the Crown. But Tyron was able to use it as a way to gain stories and secrets that he could use against his brothers thanks to the new Valkyrie as the missing piece. The new Valkyrie is currently now dealing with a very angry and very evil Thor in the deps of Midgard thanks to this. Jane knows she has no choice but to fight her longtime friend, but the Specter of Thor’s Death is so massive in her Valkyrie sight she isn’t sure how. Having felt this life draining energy before, she knows how to fight the infection, with her all weapon, Jane calls its powers of light to fight against Thor and just barley manages to knock him out. The Undrajarn reshapes itself again into the weapon of a sharp stake of white wood to attempt to stab Ode’s heart which causes a massive reaction all over Earth, inside and out. The Avengers realize that whatever the duo have done, it has stopped the attack on the surface, but Jane’s Horse knows that more must come. Tyr takes this moment to take the weapon from Jane and Thor with him to the next part of his plan in Jotunhim where the frost giants new king, Loki is waiting for them. But it’s going to take more than him, Jane and the Asgard army to stop Tyr from unleashing what’s inside the dark halls.

Jane and Thor have fought each other before but in different forms, so it should seem kinda boring when they do it again. But in this issue its not! The Thunder God and the Valkyrie pull out a lot of moves to one up the other and its heavy hitting story and graphic wise. The art is on point for the fight and Jane using the Undrairn is gorgeous and using the darks on Thor while bright on Jane make the scene pop. With the way this issue ended though, another fight between the two must be on its way (I’m guessing from comic reading experiance I have no idea) but I have no doubt that there is going to be at least one more knock out between the two that should be bigger and better. Being Valkyrie is truly the right job for Jane since she is able to use her medical experience and her time as a cancer patient to deal with forces like this. It puts things into a different perspective for her to deal with and with Thor’s “Smash First, Ask Later” she has to think outside the box.
