After Jim’s funeral, Bruce brings the GTO all the evidence he has gathered to his team to give everyone a full picture of what’s been going on. Elsewhere, Harley takes her kids to Arkham to see their father for the first time. Joker does what Joker does best and berates her and brings her down as the lesser of two clowns. Harley has had enough of the abuse and she is going to leave, Jack breaks through the laughing wall and tells her he loves her. Azrael is at odds with the elites of Gotham, they realize his vendetta against Batman will make him hard to control. They called in Bane to remove Azrael and fill the vacuum of his absence. Azrael gains the upper hand and decapitates Bane. In the new batsuit the elites provided for him, he waltzes into Arkham Asylum and slaughters most of the inmates. Joker laughing at the chaos.
Azrael and Gabriel break Joker out of prison. Shooting their way out of the place without a care in the world. Batman looks for more answers from Jason Blood, a historian for the order of St. Dumas. Bakkar and Edmond had both been terrible sinners at the time. So much that Bakkar had been excommunicated from the order years prior. He could convince Edmond to kill LaFayette and take control of the Valley for himself. Elsewhere, Duke and Renee find an arson case where the two bodies pulled out of the wreckage were that of Bane and Ruth Redford. The building on fire and Bane losing his noodle hint towards Azrael’s M.O. Bruce finds the two of them at another fire, Duke helping Renee out of the wreckage. Azrael and the Joker had shown up for the one thing tethering Jack to this world, the twins.
The way this all unfolds is like a roller coaster with no uphill parts. It’s in your face. Screaming what’s happening to Gotham in your face with zero remorse for how sensitive your hearing is. As an audience member, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You can just feel the amount of thought and passion that went into this story. How well thought out each character is to showcase Murphy’s own love for Gotham. It’s abundantly clear that the way this book is going to shake the big time Gothamites all the way down to their core. I would even put my bets into the casual Gotham fan can get a huge kick out of this arc.
