What You Need to Know:

Eddie, Dylan and Virus are trapped on another Earth where the Symbiotes have won and the world is ruled by the mysterious Codex. Virus is captured and unmasked by the symbiotic Avengers and taken to Codex, while Eddie and Dylan escape to the sewers, where they run into a bunch of Agent Venoms, led by none other than this world’s Anne Weying!

What Happens:

Eddie convinces Anne that he’s from another Earth, after explaining how he got the Symbiote, where he went to the church to kill himself, but couldn’t. On this Earth, however, he did. So he never became Venom, Anne did. She introduces the other Agent Venoms, Peter Parker, Deadpool, Andi Benton, and Cletus Kassidy. Eddie is naturally concerned about Cletus, but according to Anne he has changed. Before they can continue, they are ambushed by more Symbiotic heroes and villains, particularly the Thing, Juggernaut, Omega Red, Wolverine and Sabretooth. After losing the fight, Anne tells Deadpool to go for Plan X, as in eXplode. Meanwhile, at Codex’s church lab, Doc Ock has begun merging Virus with a Symbiote, but it’s proving troublesome for some reason. Codex reacts strongly when Virus mentions Brock, implying a strong connection there. Soon the Symbiosis is finally complete, and Virus walks out of the tube, revealing to us who he is, Scorpion! And that’s not all for revelations, back at the hero’s base, Eddie and Dylan meet this Earth’s Reed Richards, who is a crazy old man. When Dylan introduces himself, everyone gets scared, and when asked about it, Anne explains that on this world, Dylan IS Codex!

Thoughts:

A LOT of things got revealed this issue. Eddie’s fate on this world, the Agent Venoms, Virus AND Codex’s identities, etc. I will admit I was a bit let down by the reveal of Virus being Scorpion, I don’t know it seemed like less of a big deal than it should have been. But hey, at least Scorpion’s new design, is pretty good. I was not a fan of the Symbiote villains and heroes in this issue, because they look the same as they do on 616, but with a Venom logo painted on. But the character interactions this time around were good. Eddie and Anne have good chemistry here, and I like the different Agent Venoms, even if they’re mostly just recolors of each other. I do have to wonder, though, how old is Dylan on this Earth if he’s Codex and Eddie killed himself before becoming ever Venom? I guess that’ll be for the next issue to answer.
