What you need to know:

Jean Grey died many years ago at the hands of a Magneto impersonator called Xorn sending a magnetic pulse giving her a stroke.

Since then, much has changed. There has been terrible losses, and total decimation. A kill squad was sanctioned by Cyclops. Beast bringing the original X-men to the present as well as many deaths and resurrections in between. What will Jean find upon her return?

What just happened?

It seems to be an autumn morning in Annandale- on – Hudon, New York, two teenagers are casually riding their bicycles when they come across a dead body with her head exploded over the ground.

This instantly reminds me of when Jean first discovered her mutant powers when her friend Annie died after being run over in an accident when she was a child. This is the same street the Grey family lived on.

The girl’s head repairs itself, and she says something that makes no sense to anyone else. It gets weirder when a red headed girl behind the teens asks them if they want to play Frisbee. This is how Annie died, as she followed the girl into the street. The dead girl, which I suspect may be a manifestation, disappears as well. After a few hours, the Blackbird has landed with a team of X-men. Said team includes old man Logan, Colossus, Shadow Cat, Storm, Nightcrawler and Rachel Grey to investigate the crime scene.

Rachel expresses that it is strange to have returned to the area. It’s revealed that she used to have family in this area before they were murdered by the secret Shiar order. Cerebro detected mutant activity at the incident, so as Shadowcat explains this to the Police Officer near the scene, they’re told that the police there have very little experience in dealing with mutant activities.

Rachel picks up the same words spoken by the dead girl. She did not come out of the experience unscathed. Rachel is sent back to the Blackbird with Kurt to attempt to rest with her bloody  nose. Storm wanted to speak to the children who witnessed it, but was instead led to the teens who were floating with identical head injuries. When the team returns to discuss exactly what’s going on, Rachel is actually sent to the infirmary. Her body has been affected just by being in the same proximity as the activity. Logan wants to cut the investigation immediately rather than risk more injuries.

There are three other locations where the same signature has been picked up. They split into three teams to investigate the occurrences. Team one consists of Shadowcat, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Magik, Storm and Jubilee they head for the Hellfire Club. Team Two are in Mont Saint Francis and has Orginal Cyclops, Iceman, Beast & Angel as well as Rogue. The final team are in the North Pole and seem to look like an X-Force team Old Man Logan, Wolverine, Sabretooth, Warpath, Pyslocke and Domino.

The X-men are being overrun by the Hellfire club and prepare to retreat. However, their method of retreat is gone. I wonder how that could have happened.

Meanwhile all the adversaries the team are fighting disappear and that is the moment we having been waiting for all issue the Phoenix Bird in the sky hovering over the red haired woman who works in a dinner called Jean.

Now this story is called resurrection so am not going to spoil a few of the surprises but there are some special guests who have been brought back to life. Or have they? We will just have to find out as the arc continues.
