In this Issue:
Picking up from the final page of issue one, the team is fighting Tigra who has inexplicably become a giant. They are surprised by the arrival of a man who calls himself B.R.O.D.O.K (Bio-Robotic Organism Designed Overwhelmingly for Kissing). After B.R.O.D.O.K. sends Tigra away, he’s invited him to hangout at the teams’ place. Once there, he “regales” the group with his backstory and why he showed up at the arrival of Giant Tigra. Minus Clint and Kate, everyone watches Weekend at Bernies 2 and Quentin and Gwen argue the merits of the movie.
As with West Coast Avengers #1, the story here was an easy read. It did not seem as if much happened here when compared to the first issue, but not much needed to have happened. The group settling down for a bit and relaxing was a good way to delve more into the characters. The final pages are certainly building up to something. Stefano Caselli’s art and Triona Farrell’s colors continue to be incredible, particularly the two-page spread detailing B.R.O.D.O.K. I appreciated that the story didn’t ignore what Quentin did at the end of Generation X through referencing it in his t-shirt. There is less story here, but it makes up for it by getting the reader more invested in the characters.
West Coast Avengers #2 is a must read. This series is really shaping up to be something special. It is certainly a helpful refresher if you’ve read something that was emotionally heavy.
