What you need to know:
Last issue a mysterious machine arrived on the Earth of Spider-Ham, corrupting the many animal pun heroes and villains of the world and making them attack everyone. The Unhumanati got together and came up with a way to send Iron Mouse after the one who sent this machine to their Earth in the first place, but Spider-Ham, feeling bored and underappreciated, steals the watch containing “The Bee-Yonder” as a power source and leaves, winding up in the home of our Peter Parker, seeking help.
Spider-Ham and Spider-Man team up and go to the Fantastic Four for help in finding the one who is destroying Ham’s world. Meanwhile, the Unhumanati are facing off against the various corrupted characters, like “The Green Gobbler and the Hobgobbler” and “Thrr”, as everyone is losing their cartoonish colors, and end up encountering the “Swinester Six”. Ham and Peter work on finding the main threat while the Unhumanati work to fend off the corrupted heroes.
Man I sure hope you like animal puns.
…. Wait I already used that joke last time. Welp. There’s still plenty of them here. They’re like, half of the jokes are funny animal pun names. Yeah I can’t say I’m too big on the humor for the most part in this series. Outside of a few jokes here and there it just feels kind of meh to me. I love Black Colt though. Him writing down his superhero banter is legitimately hilarious to me and I don’t know why. The art is great, Will Robson does a great job balancing the goofy cartoony stuff with Spider-Ham and his world, and Spider-Man’s more realistic looking one.
Spider-Ham himself is alright, I’ve never been the biggest fan of him as a main character and that still holds true here unfortunately. He just…. annoys me. A lot. And I don’t know why. I get the joke, I get why people like him, I get why he’s popular. I just… don’t find him all that funny as a main character. The most excited I was when reading was when we got to the Fantastic Four’s house and Franklin and Valeria were there. I don’t feel like they’re used as well as they should be in a lot of stuff, including their own book…
Anyway, Spider-Ham #2 is fine. I’m going to keep reading it because there are some funny bits here and there, and I’m hoping this series will turn me around on Spider-Ham as a main character in something. Plus if it means more Black Colt in my life I’m in.
Summary Ham and Man team up once again to save the Multiverse from.... something!
