What You Need to Know:

Thor has finally arrived to help in the battle against Knull, but even the God of Thunder is not enough. Thankfully for them, they have another good on the way, a God of Light, Knull’s opposite. But that’s not all, because the Silver Surfer is also on his way.

What Happens:

Knull begins talking to Dylan through the hive, trying to do a Darth Vader-like speech of “Join me and we can rule the galaxy as father and son” kind of thing. Dylan, of course, refuses and fights back, removing Knull’s control over various heroes he had corrupted. With Dr. Strange freed, he gets his staff and uses it to power himself up, with Jean Grey coordinating everyone. She has Strange, Cyclops, Human Torch, and Invisible Woman corral a bunch of the symbiotes to the center of the city, and then Namor floods it from the sewers, with Storm and Thor calling down lightning on them all. Jean then looks inside Knull’s mind to find his weakness, but can’t find any. Until she finds out about the God of Light. The God of Light is a being that chooses one being in the Universe to be its host, bonds with them, and help them battle against the darkness. In other words, it’s a kind of Symbiote. As we see a giant ball of light in orbit of Earth, and the Silver Surfer finally arrives, takes the ball of light inside his chest, and flies through Knull’s dome, killing several dragons on his way there. He then lets it go, since the God of Light is not here for him. It flies straight to Eddie and Reed, and Reed recognizes it immediately. It’s Captain Universe, the Enigma Force. And it chooses Eddie Brock as its champion.

Thoughts:

Holy $#^@ this issue! Easily my favorite of the event so far! The heroes finally manage to fight back for real this time, and they do serious damage to Knull’s efforts. Jean Grey finally gets to do some cool stuff, even manages to hurt Knull by entering his mind. Now if only she wasn’t stuck in her terrible Marvel girl costume. Not even Stegman, Mayer, and Martin can make that dress look good. The plan to take out as many Symbiotes as possible went off in such a satisfying way, even Namor got to do stuff. The art continues to be astounding, seeing all the different heroes using their powers to funnel the Symbiotes to one spot was so good, the colors were amazing in that sequence. And of course, the reveal that the God of Light was actually Captain Universe was absolutely perfect! My jaw dropped when I read this issue. We’ve got one more issue of King in Black left, and I cannot wait to see it come out!
